MISSIONARY IN THE HANDS OF BANDITS.

FEARS FOR THE SAFETY OF FATHER TURNEY. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) RUGBY, March 23. Referring to the case of Father Turney, of St Golumba’s Mission at Cienchang, in the Chinese Province of Kiangsi, who has been held by bandits against ransom, Dr Hugh Dalton, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, stated in the House of Commons that it was feared that he was dead, though the rumour was not confirmed, and the Chinese Government had ordered the local magistrate to pay the full ransom.

The British Minister was continuing to do everything in his power to effect the release of Father Turney if he was still alive.
