HOCKEY.

SEASON’S PROGRAMME GIVEN CONSIDERATION. The annual meeting of th* Canterbury Hockey Association was held last evening, Mr L. L. Smith presiding over a good attendance of delegates. In moving the adoption of the report, the chairman appealed to the stronger clubs not to take players from the younger clubs. Times were bad and there were a lot of players out of work, which must tell on the clubs. The association might provide a fund whereby unemployed players’ subscriptions could be paid, . although the rules did not allow for it. Regarding the “Zanol” Cup, which was held by Auckland, the chairman said that Canterbury did not challenge Auckland, on account of the lack of funds. “It is-up to the association,” he said, “for Canterbury to try and send a team to the northern capital. When Canterbury held the shield Auckland always sent a team to Christchurch to contest it. and it is up to the association to send a team north so asito help the Auckland Association.” ' Mr C. C. Holland suggested that owing to the large number of teams in the second and third grades the association should split them up and provide anotHer grade, which would leave eight teams in each grade instead of twelve in the two grades. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Election or Officers. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr If. Holland, Esq., M.P.; pre-

Some players arrive at the grounds half an hour before their game is to commence and they hit the hall about the schoolboys* goal whilst they are playing their game. If they took an interest in the youngsters it would be much better for V, ie , b .°i' s and f or the game,” concluded Mr Rogers. Mr !N\ Goldsbury said he thought that if some of the well-known players coached the boys, better results would be obtained. Mr L. Ward said the game was played in only twelve schools. He thought it could be pushed further into the schools if coaches were appointed. The chairman (Mr U L. Smith) endorsed Mr Rogers’s remarks.
