HOSPITAL BOARD REVIEWS AFFAIRS.
The North Canterbury Hospital Board met to-day, when Mr H. J. Otles presided. The Hospital Committee reported that the daily number of patients in hospital was 375. In the Venereal diseases dei. partment there were 1365 attendances, representing 286 patients. 60 of whom were new. Reporting on the appeal of the Direc-tor-General of Health asking the board to give consideration to the trainees or the Napier Hospital in filling staff vacancies, the Hospital Committee reported that it was anticipated that four of the nurses in question would b* taken almost immediately, and in Juno it might be possible to take one or tw* more. The Finance Committee reported that it had under consideration the question of the medical staffing of the Oxford Hospital, and it had decided to recommend the board that, now that were two medical men practising ia Oxfond, payment of salary for the position ,of medical officer be discontinued, each medical man in the district to have the same privileges and right© as was granted to other medical me# where country hospitals were established, and where more than one medical man was practising. The committee also reported that, owing to the increase of work at th© Kaikoura Hospital the committee recommended the board to agree to th© expenditure of the sum of £2B 15s. so a© to provide necessary accommodation £o© containing records of patients. The report was adopted.
