DIVORCE WANTED AFTER 40 YEARS.

HUSBAND ALLEGES THAT HIS WIFE DESERTED HIM.

A petition by George Thomson, of 22, Burlington Street, Sydenham (Mr A. J. Malley) for dissolution of his marriage with Alice Annie Thomson (Dr A. L. Haslam), on the grounds of desertion, was heard before Mr Justice Kennedy in the Supreme Court this afternoon.

Outlining the petitioner’s case, Mr Malley said that the parties had lived together until the beginning of September last year, when the respondent announced that she was going to live with her son and sister, Mrs Miller, in Upper Riccarton. She removed all the furniture of value from the house, leaving her husband with hardly the bare necessaries. She said that she never intended to darken his door again. A short time ago he received a letter from his wife’s solicitor, Mr C. S. Thomas, saying that she intended to return to him, but Thomson replied that he would not have her back, but was willing to pay her £2 a week maintenance, which he had continued to do. Mr Malley submitted that thede had been desertion right up to the present. (Proceeding.)
