COUNTY ROAD ROLLER USED AT CASHMERE.
WHY CANAL RESERVE IS NOT PUT IN GOOD ORDER. Because the Ileathcote County Council s road roller has been required for important' work in the Cashmere riding the improvement of the section of Canal Reserve, between Hargood Street and Dyer Street, Woolston, has been delayed longer than was intended. This explanation was given to-dav bv the County Clerk (Mr J. H. M’Auliffe') m reply to criticism expressed at Monday night’s meeting of . the City Council. Mr M Apliffe said all the roads and footpaths in the Cashmere Riding were being tar-dressed and the roller was required there at present. As soon as that work was completed, which, he thought, -would be before the end of next week, the roller would be transferred to Canal Reserve. The material was now on the road, he added, and all that was required was grading and rolling in order to provide a good surface. Meanwhile the Works Department of the City Council have decided not to give any more second-hand road material to the County Council until a start is made with the work.
