LAST TRIBUTE TO LATE MR BENZIE.
PROMINENT CITIZENS ATTEND THE FUNERAL. About a hundred motor-cars followed the funeral yesterday afternoon of the late Mr Andrew James Benzie, late president of the Canterbury Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association, and factory' manager of the Christchurch Press Co., Ltd. A special service was conducted by the Rev O. Fitz Gerald at Holy Trinity Church, Avonside, where the “Dead March” in “Saul” was played as the casket was borne into the church. Mr Fitz Gerald also conducted the service at the graveside, where the hymn, “Abide With Me,” was sung. The chief mourners were Mrs A. J. Benzie, Messrs Arthur E. and Edwin J. Benzie (sons). The pall-bearers were Mr A. M. Burns (manager, Christchurch Press Company, Ltd.), Mr.R. H. Parton, Mr T. J. Lewis, Captain J. Plowman, Mr G. H. Christie (Canterbury Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association), and Mr W. A. Drake (United Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association).
