repertory society REVIEWS YEAR’S WORK.

The termination of a uniformly successful year was reported at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society tine.), last evening. The president of the society (Dr J. Hight) presided ‘over a good attendance, The president said that the annual report (already published) showed good progress made in finance and the aims of the society. He eulogised the work of members of the committee and all others who had assisted. It was noteworthy that a very high proportion of active members had been assigned pfirts in the plays produced. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes; president. Dr J. Hight; vice-president. Professor Arnold Wall; committee. Miss Aitken, Mesdames Robinson Hall and G. Hartshorn, Professor L. G. Pocock, Messrs D., I. Macdonald, L. J. Taylor, T. W. Tothill, Wm. C. Collins, and R. Twyneham; honorary secretary. Major R. F. W. Ashworth; auditor, Mr J. M. Preston. Professor J. Shelley, the retiring' vice-president, wrote stating that he did not wish to be nominated for any office in the coming year, but would be pleased to help In every other way possible. The following was among the alterations made to the rules: To ensure continuity of personnel and policy, only three members of the committee of nine shall retire annually, but shall be eligible for re-election. Mr C. Davies suggested that a com- 1 mittee of critics should be set up with whom actors in productions could con- 1 fer with a view to obtaining constructive and helpful criticism of their work. The matter was left to the incoming committee. A vote of thanks was accorded to Major R. F. W. Ashworth for his services as honorary secretary.
