OPERATION OF STANDBY PLANT COST CITY £2096.
The operation of the council’s steam standby plant during the recent power shortage involved a total cost of £2096, stated a report presented to the meeting of the City Council last evening by the Electricity Committee. The plant was operated from September 11 to November S. The total fuel used was 960 tons, the total units produced 197,310, and the maximum demand carried 298 kilowatts. In addition the Electricity Department met the cost of £786 involved in running the standby plant at the Beckenham waterworks. Besides these specific items, extra cost in a variety of ways was involved as the result of special staff requirements for extra work during the shortage. In addition, there was the loss of revenue as the result of energy not consumed, and also the rebates allowed to consumers on fixed rate charges. The report was adopted without discussion.
