SUNDAY ISLAND NOT SOLD. SAYS OFFICIAL.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 24. Sunday Island is still the property of the New Zealand Government, and no transaction involving the purchase of the island has been agreed to or even considered. It was stated in a cable message from Sydney yesterday that Dr A. J. Ross, of Brisbane, had bought the island outright, but from inquiries made in official circles, it is obvious that the statement is incorrect. Sunday Island is the principle island in the Kermadecs group, and the Department are not leasing or disposing of any part of the island. “We know nothing of the matter,” said an official of the Lands Department.
