POLICE ARREST DRIVER OF CAR.
WILL BE CHARGED AT KAIAPOI NEXT WEEK. Leslie Norman Min tosh, aged twenty-six, of 425, Tusm Street, driver of the ear involved in a fatal collision with a motor-cycle on the Waim&kariri Bridge on January 25. when George Her land Garbutt, a Kai&poi chemist, was killed, was arrested this morning by Detective Finlay. 1 Accused later appeared before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., charged with negligent! v driving a car, thereby causing the death of George Harland Garbutt. On the application of Chief-Detective Carroll, accused was remanded to appear at Kaiapoi on February 27. Counsel (Mr Hunter) asked for bail for M’lntosh. He said that he did not have any bondsmen present, and he wondered if his Worship would see fit to release the accused on his own recognisance. The Magistrate refused to agree to this. Bail was fixed in the sum of £IOO and one surety of £IOO. At the conclusion of the inquest held on Wednesday last, the Coroner directed the police to prosecute Min* tosh under Section 27 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
