MOVE TO STOP INFLUX OF UNEMPLOYED MEN
Per Press Association. NAPIER, February 18. The weather at Napier continues to be fine and sunny. There was an absence of tremors in the early hours of this morning. The work of demolition is proceeding. Mr C. O. Morse, chairman of the Citizens’ Committee, has issued a statement declaring that, owing to the influx of unemployed into Napier, the committee had found it necessary to restrict entry kito the borough to those on authorised- business, or in possession of a permit to return, issued by the refugee or relief committees.
BULLETIN ISSUED REGARDING PATIENTS
Per Press Association. PALMERSTON N., February 18. The following bulletin has been issued regarding earthquake patients admitted to the Maitland private hospital, Palmerston North: — Frederick Bowen, 42, Thomson Street, Napier, tompound fracture of the ankle, unchanged. Sister Comice, transferred from Palmerston North Convent, bruises to the thigh, much improved. L. Greenfield, 54, Nelson Crescent, Napier, transferred to Palmerston North Hospital. Miss Annie Hawkins, Meeanee Road, fracture of the thigh, much improved. Mrs Leah Mendelssohn, no information, much improved. The following information is given concerning patients admitted to the Northcliffe private hospital, Palmerston North:— A. E. Lawry, solicitor, Napier, improving. Mrs Macindoe, 18, Lenock Street, Napier, discharged. Mrs E. Walpole, 311, St . Aubyn Street, Hastings, gone to Wanganui. FURTHER DONATIONS. Per Press Association. PALMERSTON N., February 18. The Palmerston North donations to the relief fund exceed £IOOO, including £250 from the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 18. The Auckland city relief funds now exceed £30,000. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 18. The Prime Minister’s Earthquake Relief Fund now totals £112,592 16s 9d. POWER TO DEMOLISH BUILDINGS WANTED. (Special to the “ Star.”) MASTERTON, February 17. The Masterton Borough Council decided to-night that representations be made to. the Government to bring down legislation making it compulsory to remove portions of buildings which may be dangerous during earthquakes. .
