COMMITTED TO SUPREME COURT.
THEFT OF MOTOR PARTS ALLEGED BY THE POLICE.
George Langford Claude Minifie, a labourer, aged thirty-two years, and Arthur Ernest Joseph Victor, a motor driver, aged twenty-nine years, were both committed to the Supreme Court for .trial by .Mr 11. P- Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon on charges of theft and mischief. The full text of the charges against them was:—That on December 17 they stole a generator, fan, two bumper bars, magneto and timing chains to the value of £34 10s, the property of Dominion Motors, Ltd., and (2) that on the same date at Lyttelton they wilfully damaged a motor-car engine to the extent of £35, thereby committing mischief. Charles George Martin, a grocer, aged forty-five years, was charged with receiving from Minifie two bumper bars, a magneto and generator valued at £29 10s, knowing them to have been dismonestly obtained. He also was committed for trial. Minifie and Victor elected to be dealt with by a jury and pleaded not guilty. They were represented by Mr Hunter. Chief-Detective Carroll prosecuted. Accused pleaded not guilty to each charge and were committed __ to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed each accused in sureties of £IOO and selves £SO. Charge of Receiving. \ Martin also elected to be dealt with by a jury, pleading not guilty. The chief-detective said that when accused was first interviewed over the matter he denied all knowledge of the motor parts. Later, when more information was obtained, he was interviewed again and produced the goods from a cupboard in the kitchen. He then admitted having doubts about the goods when he first received them. Martin was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed in one surety of £IOO and self £SO.
