MAN IS ARRESTED ON BURGLARY CHARGES.

Per Press Association. ELTIIAM, January 7. Three Eltham shops were entered by burglars early this morning, and within half an hour of the commission of the offences the police arrested a suspect, a middle-aged man, a stranger, named Peter Tait Aitken M’Clusky. The-pre mises entered were Ward’s, drapers: Morton’s, drapers; Mann, wine and spirit merchant. Twenty-four shillings were taken at Ward's, and several bot ties of liquor at Mann’s. The man, who was on foot, entered the town at 1.30 a.m., and shortly after 2 o’clock was seen by the Uightwatchman, who communicated with the police, the arrest being made about a mile from the town. The accused was brought before the Court this morning, and remanded in custody. No application for bail was made. It is alleged that the arrest will clear up the mystery of two burglaries on November 1 last.
