SERIOUS RIOTING OPENS NEW YEAR IN INDIA.

(United Press Assn.—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright.) DELHI, January 2. The New Year was ushered in at Bombay by serious rioting. Nearly 200 persons were injured, thirty-three being seriously hurt. The Congress leaders had planned a midnight meeting to celebrate the first anniversary of the passing of the independence resolution at Lahore. Large crowds which collected in various parts of the city were dispersed by the police, who were stoned. Fifteen constables and two sergeants were injured. The police fired twelve rounds and nine persons were injured by bullets. Similar disturbances occurred elsewhere, but the city was quiet at dawn.
