Paul Or Peter?
To Correspondents.
Serious.—Much too long.
To the Bdltor. Dear Sir, —So Mr Trolove, " don’t care what Solomon or Hezekiah said." I wonder has he got a little Bible of his own? If he does not believe Solomon, then why does he quote the Bible about ditches? Remember he who tells us about ditches, tells us, “ for had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed Me, for he wrote of Me, but if ye believed not his writings, how shall ye believe My words?" (John 5-46). Even after His resurrection He began at “ Moses and all the Prophets and expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” (Luke 24-27). Now Solomon is one of those Prophets, ■whom He personally mentions by name, and Paul (even after our Saviour had ascended) has this testimony from Jesus that he (Paul) “was a chosen vessel unto Me” (Jesus). See Acts 9-5 and 15. So that in rejecting Solomon, we reject one of whom Christ approved, and Paul His chosen vessel. Mr Trolove does not produce the statement he alleges that Solomon made, so I content myself by saying that he said no such thing. In any case what has it or Paul’s remarks about women’s hats to do with “Where the Dead Men Go?” That is the question. If Mr Trolove knows, why does he not produce his evidence? The issue is, I believe, that their state has been declared to us in the Bible, while Mr Trolove professes to be wiser than Solomon, and to know more than Paul, but what can he tell us? He talks about “ roaming about every night like a bridleless horse,” but surely he does not mean us to take this seriously. Not one scrap of evidence to prove it.
Peter says my ** text-padded things cut no ice.” Quite so. I never expected they would have any impression on his thinking organ. I suppose this accounts for all this unreasonable nonsense he has been giving us lately. But as Christ and His chosen vessel Paul warn us about false teachers (Matthew 24-24 and Acts 20-30) I prefer to learn from them, as their word has proved itself and has stood the test, and even to-day is being fulfilled before our very eyes. For instance, Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.” (Luke 21-24). And so in our day the down-tread-ing of Jerusalem is ended, and the upbuilding has started. At the same time as Paul said (2nd Timothy 3-13), “Impostors shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.”
Thanks for your offer, Mr Trolove, but as you only hope to find yourself in * ditch, how can you help me? No, no, Peter, I must decline with thanks, and look to Christ, to Paul and to another Peter for
help in this.—l am, etc., J. BRIGHTON. Linwood.
