LAWN TENNIS.

STRONG WIND MAKES , PLAY DIFFICULT. ROBINSON EXTENDS ANGAS IN HARD GAME. A strong easterly made playing conditions rather unpleasant this afternoon, when the senior competition of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association was continued at Wilding Park. The draw was not a very attractive one, but there were a number of very close games. The weather was doubtful throughout the afternoon. It was the intention of several of the senior teams to play the remaining games in last week’s matches this afternoon after to-day’s games were co ™ pleted if the weather held up. The best match of the afternoon was played between C. Angas and W R Robinson, the ex-New Zealand University champion. Robinson was again ?n his game, and gave a brilliant exhibition. He was a little uncertain 1,1 stroking when in a good position, and this let Angas keep ahead in points. Angas won 6-3, 6-2, hut he had to play his hardest game this season to do it. Ho has still to attain his best form of last year, but the pair several times electrified the spectators with brilliant rallies at the net, which for the most part, however, were shared. Robinson’s driving was splendid. W. Somerville and A. R. Gant played a .hard match, in which Cant just gained the decision. Cant played brilliantly at the start, and at one stage led 8-6. Somerville, however, won back, taking the set 10-8. The second set was also hard fought, with Somerville holding the lead at the start. When he was down 6-5, however, Cant regained his early form, and won 9-7. He had an early lead in the third set, and maintained it to the end. H. A. Barnett gave further emphasis to the opinion that he is a coming figure in New Zealand tennis by beating W. Goss, jun., 6-1, 6-0. lie always had the game in hand. In the concluding match of the game between Sc Albans and Fendalton, begun iast week. Goss, jun. and Benton (St Albans) lost to Fisher and A’Court, 5- 2-6. Fendalton won the match. SENIOR GRADE.
