Get Understanding.
A Woman’s View.
JOY of a garden is one thing to the visitor and another to the creator, for the garden you have made yourself has so many hidden joys that the other person does not see. Professor Macmillan Brown, therefore, is right in his opinion that his garden is the best in the world. It is to him. But I know garden paths, which, if they were paved with gold, could not lead me to more beauty, because they wander round the nooks and views that I have made myself. Yet anyone who has made his or her own garden appreciates the other’s more. And this is the fascination of it. The non-gardener looks and sees beauty, much as a layman with little knowledge of the technicalities of art appreciates a picture: but the real gardener is like the artist who adds understanding to the enjoyment of the senses. . . For this reason garden competitions, or any movement that will lead more women to new dhtlets for creative pleasure, ought to be greatly welcomed. A garden is the best setting for the home, just as the home is the best setting for the woman.
