Relief Funds. The executive of the Grey UnemploVment Committee met yesterday, Mr J. W. Greenslade presiding. A sub-com-mittee consisting of Messrs J. W. Greenslade, A. H. M’Kane, G. W. Sampson and the secretary were authorised to deal with urgent requests. Personal. Mr J. Defrea.tus, of the railway workshops, who is leaving ori an extended visit to Auckland, was presented with a travelling companion. Mr M. Malone, head master of the Runanga State School, who is retiring on superannuation after forty years’ service, w r as presented with a travelling rug and scarf. The presentation was made by Miss Lyndsay Scott, senior girl. COBDEN. The annual concert and presentation of prizes of the Cobden School took place in the gymnasium last night. The headmaster (Mr H. R. Barrett) thanked parents for their special co-operation in running the school bank. He said that the children had deposited £l7O 0s 2d in the ten months the bank had been operating. The chairman of the committee (Mr J. Mead) presented Mr A. L. Edward, first assistant, with an eight-day chiming clock as a token of esteem from the committee, staff, and ; pupils to celebrate his marriage. Presentations from the senior scholars to the headmaster and also to his daughter for her assistance in the musical part, of the concert were made.
