TWO BOYS CAUGHT IN CHERRY ORCHARD.
Two youths aged fourteen were charged in the Children’s Court this morning with stealing a quantity of cherries to the value of 3s, and also with damaging a wire netting fence to the value of 2s. On the Bench were Mr E. D. Mosley. S.M., Mrs T. Green, and Mr W. M. West, J.P. Only one boy appeared, the other having gone to live in Wellington. Sergeant Hyland said that the boys were caught in the orchard. The boy who appeared denied all through that he had committed the offence, and was encouraged in this untruthifcilness by his mother.
A letter was produced from the other boy, admitting both offences. To the Magistrate, the boy said that he had taken no part in the theft. He had merely watched the other boy.
After warning the boy about untruthfulness, the Magistrate placed him under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer. The second boy was admonished and discharged, and was ordered to pay 5s towards the damage done.
