CABLE CHARGES TO BE REDUCED.

ANNOUNCEMENT MADE BY POSTMASTER-GENERAL Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 20. The Postmaster-General announced to-day that, following negotiations between New Zealand’s representative on the Imperial Communications Advisory Committee and the Imperial and International. Communications Company, Ltd., a substantial reduction in cable rates on cables between New Zealand, Great Britain and Ireland will take effect from January 1. The new rates will be as follows: Ordinary Is 8d per word, deferred lOd, Government lOd, daily letter 10s for twenty -words or Jess, week-end 8s 4d, Press ed per word, deferred Press 3d. Imperial Communications are reducing the cable charges to New Zealand to the same rates as for wireless mesmessages. The new rates operate from January 1. It is pointed out that the agreement with Amalgamated Wireless provided for a similar reduction for Australian cables, but these will not be altered owing to the Commonwealth’s disapproval of the agreement.
