FULL-LENGTH NEWSREEL TO BE PRODUCED WEEKLY “Commencing early in 1931, it is the intention of my company to issue a full-length Australasian Movietone Newsreel weekly,” said Mr Stanley S. Crick, managing director of Fox Film Corporation, on his return from abroad after finalising purchase by his company of Hoyts Theatres, Ltd., Australia. ’Plans are already complete, and soon the laughter of the .kookaburras will herald New Zealand and Australia’s first full-length newsreel. All nations of the earth where talkies have penetrated wonder at the fact of a bird laughing; in fact, some are inclined to state ‘There ain’t no such animal.’ “However, with the arrival of a second recording outfit which will operate in New Zealand, my company will be in the happy position of being able to cover evhry important news item. .The picture-going public are very keen on Movietone news, and particularly do they like the New Zealand and Australian items we have been releasing weekly for over a year. Naturally, increased production will mean increased work for Australian laboratories, which is all for the good of local effort. We will maintain the high traditions of the parent Fox Movietone Newsreel, and doubtless our efforts will give Australasian news topics the prominence they deserve throughout the rest of the work].” Concluding. Mr Crick said: “In addition to the New Zealand and Australian news we will release a fulj-length Fox Movietone British Newsreel each week, which will show exclusive news and views of the Mother Country. We will also continue to issue two International Fox Movietone News weekly, making four issues of approximately one thousand feet each from our company.” A Maori Epic. “The Devil’s Pit.” billed as a Maori epic, with a cast of 1000 natives, was being screened. at the Little Carnegie Theatre, New York, last month. An Old Favourite. Bert Lytell, screen favourite of the “silent ’ days ; was appearing in “Brothers,” a new drama, at Henry Duffy’s President Theatre, San Francisco, last month. Constance Bennett’s Plans. Constance Bennett is planning to spend Christmas in Paris—that is, if she can arrange her contract with Pathe.
