POLICE ARREST TWO SPEAKERS.
DEPARTMENT SAYS CHARGE IS SERIOUS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 20. Speeches made in Dixon Street on Sunday night led to the arrest yesterday of John Joseph Robinson, a miner, aged thirty, and Richard Francis Griffin, a bookseller, aged thirty, who appeared before Mr M’Neil, S.M., to-day, charged with inciting divers persons unknown to resist, assault or obstruct constables in the execution of their duty, inciting lawlessness and causing traffic to be obstructed. Griffin was also charged with using insulting words. Mr Yaldwyn, for accused, asked for a remand and bail. Sub-Inspector Ward said that the offences were regarded by the Department as serious. The Magistrate granted a remand and fixed bail at one surety of £250 or two of £125 for each man.
