WANGANUI NOTES.
(Special to the “ Star.”) WANGANUI, December 20. Local trainers were favoured with ideal weather and a fast track this morning, the course proper being open before breakfast. W. Rayner gave Pomp and Impetuous a run over half a mile, which they left behind in 51 2-ssec. They were together all the way, were running on nicely at the end. Pomp was ridden by his trainer, and J. Rayner was on Impetuous. Impetuous is engaged in the Juvenile Handicap at Marton, and Pomp is to run in the Railway Handicap at the same meeting. Pedestal had Auctioneer as a companion. They went round at half pace, finishing fast over the last quarter, which the>* cut out in 26see. Arvada (K. Lambess) ran the first furlong of a six furlong spin fast, and was then steadied. She moved very nicely, and is an improving filly. She is to .race at New Plymouth. Solange (J. Rayner) was sent five furlongs by herself, running the first three in 39sec, and the full journey in Imm 5 3-ssec. She figures in the Trial Plate at Marton.
Jack Plane (W. Easton) hopped over three hurdles, and was then pulled up, owing to some gear giving way. The Warplane gelding jumped well. He is to run in the hurdles at New Plymouth. Arisus, Hinewai and Takalvue were associated in a five furlong spin. Takahue had the best of the start, Arisus (Ellis) being last, but he hit out well, and finished full of running nearly a length ahead of Hinewai (J. Barry), with Takahue a length and a half further back. They ran the first three furlongs in 37 losec, and the full dis-' tance in lmin 4 2-osec.
No Humbug was given useful work on the plough, and All Humbug ran three furlongs in 39sec. Arisus is back to his best form, and should win a race during the holidays. It is understood that Fred Tilley, the well-known trainer, is on his way back from his trip to England and the Continent. Seatown paid up for both at Auckland and Awapuni. It is understood that he will race at Awapuni. HAWKE’S BAY NOTES. (Special to the “Star”) NAPIER, December 20. Monarchy has gone amiss and he did not go to Auckland with Chrvsology and Courtesy. Mountain Heath and Nimble will be running at Waipukurau on Boxing Day and Rory Mor at Manawatu. Shrewd did a good gallop on Thursday morning and is in excellent fettle for the Manawatu Cup. Hunting Cry and Goshawk will leave Woodville for Ellerslie this morning. Head Serang and Royal Parade are in good order for their Awapuni engagements. Clarendon will be an absentee from the holiday meetings, having pulled up lame after a gallop a few days ago. Ganpat is working well and may shortly improve on his recent efforts.
