advances claims for SUBSIDY TO SCHOOLS. Per Press Association DUNEDIN, December 17. “A noteworthy book,” was the opinion expressed by Dr Whyte, Roman Catholic Bishop, on Mr A. G. Butchers’s publication, “ Education in New Zealand,” in his address at a school breakup. The book had caused a great deal of criticism and the statistics had been called in doubt. It showed a very deep research in which the author pointed out ways in which religious schools such as theirs could receive a subsidy. The reasons, said the Bishop, for Catholic schools not getting a subsidy were not to the credit of the general public of New Zealand. It was a very noteworthy book, which would be heard of in the iuturc. i
