HARBOUR BOARD MAKES GRANTS FOR PICNICS.

The Lyttelton Harbour Board met today. There were present:—Messrs H. T. Armstrong (chairman), K. Galbraith, J. Leslie, H. Holland, M.P., E. J. Howard, M.P., W. T. Lester, F. E. Sutton, H. M. Chrystall, It T. M’Millan, W. G. Gallagher, W. J. Walter, F. L. Parnham and Captain H. Monro. The board agreed to increase the Railway Department’s commission on the collection of wharfage dues from per cent to 3i per cent. The taffy clerks’ shelter at Lyttelton will be enlarged, provided the cost does not exceed £3OO. The sum of £25 was voted towards the funds for the board’s staff picnic, and £2 2s towards the Lyttelton’waterside workers’ and railway workers’ picnic. The question of a grant to the Sumner Civic Federation for the provision of beach patrols was held over. Reports Adopted.

The treasurer’s statement showed sums amounting to £6541 14s 6d paid into the Harbour Fund Account, compared with £8679 8s Sd for November, 1930. The total ordinary receipts for the first eleven months of 1930 were £99,378 17s, compared with £114,859 15s Od for the corresponding period of 1929. The Harbour Fund was in credit £6 805 10s. The unpaid accounts to be passed for payment amounted to £1927 2s, 3d, leaving the account in credit £4S7S 7s 9d. The harbourmaster (Captain T. M. Hunter) reported the following transfers of staff:-—A Brodie, mate of the tug, transferred to dredge Canterbury as sailing master; S. Martin, night watchman, transferred to the tug in place of A. Brodie; R. T. Ings, signalman at Heads, to S. Martin’s place as night watchTlie report of the Sailors’ Home Committee showed a debit balance of £143 8s for the twelve months ended September. 2.930. For October the debit was £27 9s Id. and for November £29 0s 2d
