WAKANUI ROAD BOARD. The monthly’ meeting of the Wakanui Road Board was held yesterday, Mr F. Frampton presiding. Other members present were Messrs J. Watson, A. Gregory and A. Bennett. The County Council intimated that the cost of reinstating two falls in storm water drains, on Christy’s and Butterick’s roads would be in the vicinity of £llO. As no provision had been made on this year’s estimates, it had been decided to defer the work until the next financial year, and the council asked what amount the board would contribute. It was decided to defray one-third of the cost. Reference was made to the disregard on the part of some landowners concerning instructions to have gorse cleared from the roads fronting their properties. In one case two of the board’s members were appointed to wait on the owner of the land and if no reasonable excuse for the delay in complying with the board’s order is forthcoming the work is to be carried out at the occupier’s expense. It was agreed to impose a penalty of 10 per cent on rates outstanding after the end of the month. The following transfer was approved, J. T. Nelson to George S. Kennedy, 74 acres. Reports on works showed that maintenance work had been carried out during the past month, on Settlement, Gardner's, Stanley’s, Rule’s and Fairfield roads. Upper Ashburton Road Board.
