ESCAPED PRISONERS ARE BOTH RECAPTURED

ONE DISCOVERED IN CAVE BY N.S.W. POLICE (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received December 2, 10.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 2. Two men who escaped from a patrol van on November 15 have been recaptured. One, Joseph Schmidt, a notorious criminal, was caught in a cave at Hurstville. He made another bid for freedom, leaping over the heads of the police, but was caught and, ironically enough, taken back to gaol in the same van from which he made his cunning escape. This time, however, the floor was of steel. Two prisoners escaped from the patrol van by tearing up the floor boards and dropping through into a busy Sydney street. By the time the police were alarmed by another convict, the escapees had got clean away.
