NORFOLK ISLAND WANTS N.Z. TOURISTS
WITHDRAWAL OF SHIP CAUSES FALLING-OFF. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, December 1. The Administrator of Norfolk Island (Colonel A. J. Bennett), in his annual report, says that the residents are alarmed at the falling off of tourist traffic, especially from New Zealand, owing to the withdrawal of the .steamer Maui Poniare. However, it is hoped that the service will be restored in part at least. Norfolk Island has developed amazingly during the last five years. Imports have increased from £IB,OOO to £50,000 a year, and exports from £6OOO to £35,000. Whereas there was only one motor-car on the island two years ago, there are now 100.
