MAN DROWNED WHILE DRIVING TO FUNERAL OF HIS BROTHER

Sister Injured In Accident; Christchurch Family Suffers.

TRAGEDY has dogged the footsteps of a Christchurch family since Friday last—one son died, after a sudden illness; another was drowned while coming from Lawrence to the funeral; and a sister is at present suffering from injuries received in a bicycle accident. The tragic sequence began with the death of William Bradwell, aged 54 years, in the Christchurch Hospital on Friday last. His brother, Harry Bradwell, was drowned this morning in a creek near Palmerston.

Mr William Bradwell was apparently in the best of health last week, when he caught a chill. Pneumonia rapidly developed, and he was taken from his home, 12, Essex Street, Linwood, to the Christchurch Hospital. He continued to sink, however, and died on Friday night last. Mr Bradwell, who was a signwriter, was well known in Christchurch. Stricken by the sudden news, his family gathered in Christchurch to attend his funeral, which was held this afternoon at the Linwood Cemetery. Second Tragedy. A second tragedy followed almost immediately, however, a brother, Harry Bradwell, a compositor living in Lawrence, Centra! Otago, was drowned in a creek a mile north of Palmerston,

whilst hurrying by car to Christchurch. From the meagre details available, it appears that a motor-car driven by Colin Goodlet, of Lawrence, with Harry Bradwell and a woman as passengers, ran into the creek and capsized. Goodlet was not seriously injured. He is in hospital in a semi-conscious condition. The woman was not injured. Sister Injured. Still another accident was to follow. When a sister, living in Essex Street, heard the news of her second brother’s death, she took her bicycle to ride to New Brighton to inform her sister. Opposite Wainoni her dress became entangled in a wheel, and she was thrown heavily, being severely cut about the face, as well aS suffering severely from shock.
