Nationality Or Morality ?
A Woman’s View
JT WOULD be a poor prospect for Britain if many women were like Dr Ethel Bentham’s friend, who preferred to live in an unmarried state with a foreigner rather than lose her nationality. This example of a warped sense of values does not supply a very strong argument in favour of the Bill to restore the right of British women to retain their own nationality when married to a foreigner. In these days of international mindedness one looks for the choice between morality and nationality to fall on the side of morality. The other choice is more Russian than British. Nationality, after all, is only valuable insofar as it preserves national characteristics. B.E.S.
