The axemen's carnival concluded at Ulverstone on Saturday, when great public interest was taken in the championship events, in which New Zealand and Australian axemen took part. The Hopetoun Cup. for world’s championship standing chop, was won for the third lime by R. Radford (Tasmania), who narrowly beat L. Afcpo, of Si The?e was great Surprise When the Fraser brothers, of New Zealand, sawed brilliantly and won- the double-handed sawing. Results:— Single-handed sawn\g championship, eighteen inches —S. Turnbull 3, E. Turnbull (Tasmania) 2. Blanks (New Zealand) 3. Time—Smin 43 2-3 sec. Nichols Handicap, twelve-inch standing block—Sullivan 3. Phillips 2, Cheshire 3. Time —30 2-ssec. Tasmanian Centenary Cup. standing chop, four feet—Weston (Victoria) 3, Hunter (New Zealand) 2, Phillips 3, Time—s7sec. Braddon Championship, double-handed sawing—H. and A. Fraser (New Zealand) 1, W. Turnbull and Walker (Tasmania) 2. S. G. Turnbull and E. Turnbull (Tasmania) 3. Won by one second in 16 4-ssee, a world’s record. This was the greatest contest ever seen in Tasmania.
