WHIPPETS RACE ON NEW CINDER TRACK
CHRISTCHURCH DOGS RUN WELL AT DUNEDIN.
(Special to the “Star/’) DUNEDIN, November 30. Racing for the first timo upon their new cinder track at Tahuna Park, the cup meeting of the Dunedin Whippet Racing Club proved very successful. There was a good attendance of spectators and the racing throughout was keenly contested. The arrangements were well carried out and with the exception that The run-out was rather too } short, everything went well. ThreS* Christchurch dogs were prominent in the racing, Mr J. R. D. Johns securing first and second places In the Llpyd Cup for the short limit fiat race, whilst Mr V. J. Drake’s Golden Arrow secured second place in the Dunedin Cup. The following were the results;— THE KENNELS PUPPY HANDICAP (sweepstake), 125yds (restricted to puppies under twelve months on the day of the race): — First heat—F. Tanner’s Happy Days (11yds) 1, Mrs J. S.. Douglas’s Scotland’s Best (17yds) 2. A close finish. Time—lo sec. Second heat—Jas Mitchell’s Major Doon (9yds) t, E. Sheed’s Colleen Doon (18yds) 2. A keen struggle. Time—9 2-ssec. Final. Colleen Doon (Captain Doon—Bonny Mary) 1 Happy Days (Tasman Flight—-Miss Argyle) 2 Won by a length. Time—9 4-ssec. DUNEDIN CUP FLAT HANDICAP, of 15 sovs. and cup, 150yds (with 23yds limit). First heat—J S. and Mrs J. S. Douglas’s Lady Be Good (21yds) 1, J. and J. M. Winder’s Young Bonnie (23 yds) 2. Won by a good two lengths. Time—9 4-ssec. Second heat—J. R. D. Johns’s Fleetwing (7yds) 1, Jas Mitchell’s Captain Doon (20yds) 2. Won by a couple of yards. Time—lOsec. Third heat—V. J. Drake's Golden Arrow (23yds) 1. Mrs A. B. Bi'ack’s Cameo (22yds) 2. Won by three yards. Time.—9 4-ssec Fourth heat—R. Aitcheson's Medley (23yds > 3. F. Tanner’s Great Hope (23 yds) 2. Won by a yard. Time—9 4-5 First semi-final. Lady 3-Je Good 1 Captain Doon 2 Won by a length. Time—9 4-ssee. Second Semi-final. Golden Arrow 1 Great Hope . 2 A very close finish. Time—9 3-ssee. Final. Great Hope (Tasman Flight—Miss Argyle) 1 Golden Arrow (llosonor—Brown Betty) 2 Lady Be Good (Mab Song—Minoru) 3 A length separated the first three dogs. Time—9 4-ssec. LLOYD CHALLENGE CUP SWEEPSTAKE, 3 50yds (with a 13yds limit). t First Heat—J. R. D. Johns’s Glenrossie (syds) 1, B. Hobbs’s Tasman Flight (13yds) 2. Won by a couple of feet. Time—lOsec.
