PERSONAL ITEMS.

Mrs Cheviot Bell, Wellington, is stayring with her parents, Mr and Mrs C. T. Newton, Rugby Street. Miss Jean Newton, Ashburton, returned home to-day after a visit to Miss Betty Macdonald, Murray Place. Miss G. Gray, sports mistress at “ Rangi-ruru ” private school, will leave early next year for a trip to England. Miss M. O. Stoddart, Cashmere Hills, will return on Wednesday from a visit to the Hermitage, Mount Cook. Mrs W. Macbeth, Aikman’s Road, is visiting Mrs Frank Davison at Culverden. Mr and Mrs Gladstone Ward and family will leave on January 1 for a nine months’ tour of the East and Europe. Among those who attended the St Bartholomew’s Church garden fete at Kaiapoi on Saturday afternoon were Bishop and Mrs West-Watson, Colonel and Mrs Dawson, and Mrs Holland, widow of the late Rev J. Holland, who was vicar of the parish for over twenty years.

Miss Lilias Lane, of Timaru, who prior to her departure for England, eighteen months ago, to further her studies in art, was a pupil of Miss Madeline Venning, of Timaru, has had one of her pictures accepted for the Paris Autumn Salon. The following are guests at the Hotel Federal:—Miss M. J. Goad (Hinds), Mr D. C. Williamson (Geraldine), Miss N. Duncan (Timaru), Mr A. G. Crawford (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs J. Webster, Mr and Mrs J. W. Wood (Ashburton), Mr W. W. Duff (Wellington), Mr and Mrs M’Knight (Dunedin).
