COLOMBO STREET JOB NEARLY COMPLETED.

The reconstruction of Colombo Street South will be completed on Friday next, when a number of the* men now engaged on the job will be transferred to work in Hare wood Road, Papanui. Councillor J. W. Beanland, chairman of the Works Committee, said this morning that he regretted the necessity for putting off the men engaged on the Colombo Street job, and he was endeavouring to place as many of them as possible in other jobs. It was intended to push on with the reconstruction in bitumen of Harewood Road, and when that was completed a start would be made with similar work in Westminster Street. But these jobs were included in the loan schedule. He regretted that it was not possible to put in hand any other new works that would absorb labour at present.
