PENCARROW LIGHT TO GO TO BARING HEAD.

MR E. RIDDIFORD GIVES LAND FOR NEW SITE. (Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, November 24. Mr Eric Riddiford, of Orongoronga Station, has made a simple matter of transferring Pencarrow Lighthouse and fog signal to Baring Head, which juts out half-way between Pencarrow and Taurakirae. Mr Riddiford is giving a site for the lighthouse and a keeper’s residence, also an area for a garden and for the keeping of a cow, besides which he will provide an easement for a road for the transport of stores. The advantages of Baring Head for a light as against Pencarrow have been stressed by shipmasters for many years, and Mr Riddiford has also shown great interest in the welfare of seafarers passing in and out of Port Nicholson in sight of his homestead. Baring Head forms part of his estate.
