MINISTERIAL. The Minister of Education, the Hon IT. Atmore, arrived from Wellington this morning. He opened the new wing of the Avon side Girls’ High School this afternoon, and will leave for Nelson to-morrow morning. Cabled advice has been received by the Acting-Prime Minister (the lion E. A' Ransom) that the Right Hon G. W. Forbes and members of the New Zealand delegation to the Imperial Conference will sail on their return by the Ormonde on December C. Messrs E. A. Astley, E. Cooper, J. Elliott and F. Clark arrived from the north this morning. Mr H. M. Chrystall left yesterday for the West Coast and will return to Christchurch early next week. Dr E. C. Ilayes, who attended the British Medical Association Conference at Winnipeg in August, returned to Christchurch yesterday morning. Mr J. T. Grose, General Manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, returned from Sydney yesterday after a brief visit to Australia. Mr John Fuller, who arrived in New Zealand from Australia last week, is at present in Wellington. He leaves on Monday night for Christchurch where lie will spend a few days. Mr C. Dugdale Priestly, of Madras, Assistant Director of Imperial Chemical Industries (India), Ltd., arrived by the Marama vesterday, on a holiday visit to the Dominion. The Deputy-Mayor (Dr H. T. J. Thacker) was admitted to Lewisham Hospital last evening suffering from a septic leg. Rir condition was reported not to be serious. The Mayor of Auckland, Mr G. Baildon, announces his retirement from office next May. He has been a member -of the City Council since 1914 and Mayor of Auckland since 1925. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr H. Rosindale, chairman of the East Christchurch School Committee, was passed at last night’s meeting of the Canterbury School Committees Association. Leaver, for many years chairman of the New Brighton School Committee, in the death of his wife. Dr Gerard Maskell, lecturer in zoology at Victoria University College, left by the Maunganui yesterday to undertake a 3-ear’s research work on the Tuatara in the Department of Zoology, Oxford. Messrs F. Graham (chairman of the Christchurch Stock Exchange), H. Kitson, A. Ft Scott and H. G. Lyttle (secretary-) left last night for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Stock Exchange Association of New Zealand.
The Director of Education (Mr T. B. Strong) and the Assistant-Director (Mr A. Bell) arrived from the south last evening, and will spend to-day, to-mor-row, and Friday in visits to Canterbury and northern schools. They ■will leave for Wellington on Friday evening. Mr J. W. Graham and Mr D. I. Macdonald (secretary) left for Wellington last night to represent the Canterbury Employers’ Association at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Federation of Employers. Mr A. M. Burns, vice-president, and Mr G. M. Flail, left on Monday’- night also to represent the Association at the annual meeting of the Federation.
