Why Not Match-races?
Dear Sir, —“ White Mudguard ” says in his letter that “ I then go on to pull Groan to pieces,” which was not the truth. X only stated plain facts. He also asks me to compare Grose’s road record with what O’Brien has done. This has nothing to do with the Australian trip, as Grose is going over solely as a track-rider. The same applies to the gruelling Round-the-Gorges* also Palmerston North to Wellington races. I myself saw Grose in the Palmerston North to Wellington 1928 race and was not impressed with his riding when he pulled out before reaching Paekakariki. The fairest way to settle this argument would be to stage a series of match races between O’Brien and Grose. # I don’t sea the point in bringing up Grose's accident. That happened some years ago, and as for looking for a rider in Wellington, well, O’Brien won easily when riding from scratch there last Labour Day.—l am, etc., A.R.M,
