SESSIONS OF METHODIST SYNOD INAUGURATED.

A sitting of the District Ministerial Committee at Durham Street Methodist Church, this morning, inaugurated the sessions of the annual Synod of the North Canterbury District of the Methodist Church. The Rev A. N. Scotter (president of the conference and chairman of the district) presided over an attendance of about forty ministers.

The secretarial duties were discharged by the Rev A. H. Fowles, assisted by the Revs E. W. Hames, H. Fallows (journal secretary), J. R. Nelson, L. C. Horwood, and T. J. Wallis (Press reporters). After preaching trial sermons, and undergoing oral examinations in theology and literature, the Revs H. Fallows, L. C, Horwood and W. Parker (second year probationers) were advanced a year in their probation. The president, in a brief address, stressed the importance of the ministers fostering the devotional spirit in their circuits, by holding regular meetings for fellowship among their congregations.

Letters of sympathy were directed to be sent to several ministers in whose families there is sickness.
