TRAMS DELAYED AT RAILWAY CROSSING.
Periodically trams arc delayed at the Colombo Street railway crossing, and on each occasion the Tramway Board has brought the matter under the notice of the Railway Department The most recent case was a delay of four and a half minutes to an Opawa tram. The Department explained that this was due to a heavy goods train that had been started before the tram arrived.
“ These delays are happening far too often,” said Mr W. Wiliamson. “ Cannot we get in touch with the members of Parliament about it? The last reply of the Railway Department was far from satisfactory', in ray opinion.” Mr John Wood: The railways have to do their business the same as we have. I do not think the}' go out of their way to hold up the trams.
The chairman (Mr W. Hayward) : It may be merely by' oversight on the part of the people in charge at the moment. I think if we just go on reminding them of the delays it will meet the case.
Mr E. ll^ Andrews: It is not necessary' for trains to stop on the crossing. The chairman: The question is whether they- attach sufficient importance to the trams. No action was taken.
