The work at Riccarton this morning was not of much interest. The number seven grass track was open but onlv a few Horses went on it and their tasks, in the main, were short sprints, not many of them going more than three furlongs. Most of the horses who raced last week are still having an easy time, but others who are being got ready fof spring engagements will soon have their work increased.

The three-year-old filly Spoon was a spin over three furlongs this morning. It was her first sprint since she won the Challenge Stakes at Easter and she moved along nicely, though without being asked to do her best, as she went off slowly. The Tea Tray fillv is being got ready for the Dunedin G&ineas.

Thurina, ridden b 3" E. Shaw, was given a school over two hurdles at Rio carton this morning and shaped attractively.

D. Campbell has taken in hand a two-year-old brother to Battle Colours and Satisfy by Solferino from Satisfaction. He is a well grown young horse. * # * i'fi * P. V. Mason is keeping his team busy in useful tasks at present and several of them should be ready to show form early. The three-year-olds, Ozone and Praise, look in good order. * * * * Aberfeldy is having a spell in the paddock at present. lie injured one of his feet some time ago and though R. W. King got him out once last week, when he ran a good second to West Dome in the Jumpers’ Flat Handicap, the Quin Abbey gelding may not be raced again for some time, as it is deemed advisable to allow his foot to grow down before he is taxed any further. s*: sji sj; * C. Emerson has his team of three horses going along smoothly in useful tasks. The two-year-old filly, Lochlaggan, by Woodend from Glen train, is a very attractive youngster. She has not been seriously tried out 3'et, but she gives the impression that she would be a smart galloper. Standard Rose, by Rosenor, from The Kiss, may have a race at Ashburton next month, while Royal Sceptre, by Rosenor from Bonny Olive, will be ready for his first appearance a little later. These two by Rosenor are premising sorts. Their sire, a well-bred imported horse b>’ Grosvenor, the only son of Sceptre, has been acquired b> r the well known North Canterbur\ r sportsman, Mr G. N. M’Lean. Not many of Rosenor’s progeny have raced, but Red Royal has shown himself to be a good galloper, and his owner, Mr G. A. Kain, has great hopes for his campaign in Australia.
