FINAL TRAINING WORK ON ELLERSLIE TRACK

(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, August 21

Beautiful weather prevailed for training work at Ellerslie this morning, when the final gallops in connection with the Pakuranga Hunt meeting, which takes place on Saturday, were held. The outside of the course proper with the pole fifty feet ‘out from the rails, was principally used for fast work, while the No*. 3 grass track was also available. The going was heavy. Course Proper. Red Lion completed hall a mile in 55 4-ssec. Foot Rule finished several lengths in front of Cat-a-mes over five furlongs in lmin 9 2-ssec. Lady Court, assisted by Stimulant, ran home from the six-furlong post in lmin 26sec. They finished together, going easily. Gold Money sprinted, half a mile in 52 3- the last three ■ furlongs in 40 2- She carried a light-weight, but went well. Catoma was sent seven furlongs, running the first three in 41 4-ssec, and the full distance in lmin 38 l-ssec. The Catmint gelding did his work in gcod style. Eager Rose was timed to run a similar distance in lmin 42sec and could have improved on this. Llanore and Patutahi finished in front of Kawainga over a half a mile in 54 3-ssec. Dayform accomplished a similar task in 55 4-ssec. Volimond was slightly in front of Iloniton in a five-furlong sprint in lmin 8 l-ssec. Milvane, on the outside, was alongside Operatic after completing four furlongs in 53 l-ssec. Both horses were kicked up to their work at the finish. Great Emblem and Frothblower were on terms with Gay Cc-ckade and Principal a length or two away at the end of six furlongs run in lmin 25sec. Thunderstorm and Wild Country easily accounted for Prince Amans over six furlongs covered in lmin 25 l-ssec. Tetrachate ran home from the halfmile post in 56 4-ssec. Hannibal was holding Bennie safely while running six furlongs in lmin 23 4- Hannibal is in good order for his race on Saturday. High Pitch alone ran seven furlongs in lmin 37 2-ssec. Fall o’ Year had slightly the better of Marble Mount and Catullus, with Scaramouche several lengths away after completing a mile in lmin sSsec. Quincoma and Odin were associated over a round in 2min 19sec. Desert Glow and Flying Prince, the former on the outside, covered five furlongs in lmin 10 4-ssec. There was little between them at the finish, but Desert Glow impressed more. Sub-Editor and United jumped off in front of Mon Star at the three-furlong post, and finished in front in 40 3-ssec. Sub-Editor had the advantage of United when the post was reached. Awamutu, who is looking well, jumped away at the half-mile post, and ran home in 52 l-ssec. He carried a light boy, and, galloping very freely, recorded the best time of the morning. Biddy Comet ran half a mile, but was not after time. Esculus strode over five furlongs in lmin 13 l-ssec. No. 3 Grass Track. Maori Boy’s task was confined to easy pacing on this track. Currajong and Spring Song did , strong work over a round in lmin 55 ; 3Lady’s Boy sprinted a few furlongs, but was not on a time-making mission. Others to do useful work were Nancy Lee. Bizarro, Tambourine, Imperial Prince, Sir Archie, New Boj 7 , IV altzer, Grand Spirit, Cynthia N., Good Boy, Royal Gallant. Herbie, Informant, Gay Idea, Good Idea, Royal Tea and The Fox. Speedfast and Golden Spahi were given a run along over two furlongs on the two-year-old track. The Jumpers. Rodger (R. Olive) cleared the stonewall safely, and afterwards worked over six furlongs on the No. 3 grass track. Foxhound (A. Gilmer), Master Arch (J. Leach) and Lovely Boy (J. M’Rae) were associated in a schooling bout over the steeplechase course. They commenced at the brush fence near the mile post, Master Arch giving the other two a number of lengths’ start. They cleared the double on the hill and finished up over the fences on the fiat. Master Arch being slightly in front of Foxhound, who came to grief at the last fence (the stonewall). Lovely Boy, who was following him several lengths back, whipped round owing to Foxhound struggling on the ground on the far side of the obstacle directly in front of him. Lovely Boy was taken back and cleared the fence safely, as did Foxhound. Master Arch gave a safe display throughout; and, for a novice. Lovely Boy gave a promising exhibition. SCRATCHED.
