GEORGE ARLISS IS STAR IN “THE GREEN GODDESS.”
Following so close upon that, remarkably successful production, “Disraeli,” any picture featuring George Arliss was assured of success, but “The Green Goddess” is so well done in every department, from the intensely interesting plot to the tiniest detail of scenery, that it will undoubtedly create a new reputation of its own. George Arliss appears as the Rajah of Rukh, the absolute monarch c r a little kingdom up amongst the Himalaya mountains. The story deals with his treatment of three English people—Major Crespin, his beautiful wife, Lucilla, and Dr Traherne —who fall into his hands when their aeroplane crashes. The discovery of a wireless plant. Major Crespin’s death while sending a message to the nearest aerodrome, and the timely arrival of British ’planes to save the two remaining prisoners are amongst the momentous events that conclude the story. The supporting, pictures maintain the high standard of the programme.
