TROTTING CLUB GIVES MONEY FOR ROAD WORK

Earmarked for improvement to Riccarton Avenue from the Hospital to Deans Avenue, the sum of £l5O has been given to the Citizens’ Unemployment Committee by the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club. The Unemployment Committee has accepted the donation. In a discussion at the meeting of the Finance Committee of the Unemployment Committee to-day, it was stated that there was no hope of having the work done this year, as the next few months would have to be spent in negotiations. The difficulty might be overcome by the committee spending the £l5O on present wants and finding that amount when the work was ready to be commenced Mrs A. I. Fraer: Could not the money be spent on removing the live fences for the Domains Board, along the lines of Mr R. B Owen’s scheme? A Member: Suppose Mr Owen is blown out on that? Mr W. W. Scarff: It is a condition that he starts next Friday. It was decided to thank the club for its offer and state that the condition governing it would be observed.
