WANT PROTECTION FOR SUGAR INDUSTRY.
QUEENSLAND GROUP WAIT ON MR SCULLIN. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. > (Received July 28, 11.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, July 2S. A deputation, accompanied by the Premier of Queensland, Mr A E Moore, asked the Prime Minister to renew the protective sugar agreement and the embargo against the employment of coloured labour cn the canefields. It was stated that 300,000 acres were under cultivation and 90 per cent of those- employed in the industry were of British origin, while the sugar exported yearly reduced the adverse trade balance by at least £2,000,000, in addition to being responsible for circulating £10.000.000 annually. Mr Scullin promised to place the representations before Cabinet.
