SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Tennis Party. Yesterday afternoon at her home, “ Fownhope,” St Martins, Mrs F. Wilding, assisted by her daughter. Miss Cora Wilding, gave a delightful tennis party in honour of Mr and Mrs Wilhelm Backhaus. During the afternoon a delicious afternoon tea was served in the spacious drawing room. Among those invited to meet Mr and Mrs Backhaus were: Dr and Mrs T. L. Crooke, Dr and Mrs J. Plight, Mr and Mrs Frank Wilding, Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson, Dr and Mrs Frankel, Madame Gower-Burns, Mrs Bevan-Brown, Dr and Mrs W. Irving, Mrs D. P. Dickenson, Miss Betty Tipping and Dr F. V. Bevan-Brown. Studio Party. A delightful party was given by Miss Mulvany Gray at her studio, Victoria Street, last night, when amidst a profusion of spring flowers Miss Gray, assisted by Miss Mary Menzies, welcomed a large number of guests. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs J. G. L. Vernon, Dr and Mrs A. C. Thomson, Mr and Mrs H. St A. Murray, Mr and Mrs Stephen Wade, Mr and Mrs W. B. Honour, Misses Alice Madden (Ashburnon), Marjorie Moon, Halmai Loughnan, Kathleen Hoare, E. and J. Mahar, Agnes Barrett, Joan and Gendie Maling, Mary Alexander, May Andrew, Anne Cooper, Maudie and Pauline Kitto, Mary Warren (Hawke’s Bay), Dr F. BevanBrown, Dr Morkane, Messrs Herbert Richardson, T. Harman, W. Reeves, Ross Wood, D. Robison, F. Banks, W. Leckie, J. Killian, N. Alexander, R. J. S. Bean, M. Dearsley, G. Bennett, G. Turnbull, P. Reece, B. Saville, Robinson, L. Thompson and Alan Menzies. Kiwi Joggers’ Social.

The annual social and dance of the Kiwi Joggers was held on Wednesday evening in the Trades Social Hall, arrangements being in the hands of the secretary, Mr W. A. Ilammett, assisted by members of the committee. The dances were interspersed with several exhibition folk dances, a recital by Mr Sawtell and competitions.
