FISHERMEN OPPOSE BOATING ON LAKES.

According to a letter received at the meeting of the Canterbury Automobile Association Council last evening, the Ashburton Acclimatisation'Society intends to approach the Government for permission to prohibit power and other boats from being used on lakes in their district, presumably to benefit 'sportsmen. The letter pointed out that this action, if carried into effect, would penalise those who used the lakes for pleasure boating. The chairman, Mr W. F. Carey, stated that the matter hardly came within the province of the association. It was decided to refer the letter to the South Island Motor Union.
