TEMUKA-TIMARU ROAD RACE HELD.
BARNES, OF DUNEDIN, IS AN EASY WINNER. The annual Temuka to Timaru road race, conducted by the Timaru Harrier Management Committee on Saturday, credit being due to the officials for the splendid way in which the event was conducted. There was a record entry, and a first-class contest resulted in a win for the Canterbury cross-country champion, J. G. Barnes, who was running for the Civil Service Club (Dunedin). Barnes went to the front at the end of the first mile and,* although closely followed for the next two or three miles by a strong bunch, he commenced to draw away from the field before the half-way mark was reached. He ran out a very easy winner, finishing undistressed in record time. The; Civil Service Club won the teams’ race easily with the good score of 40 points. The Leith Club (Dunedin) were second and Timaru third, while last year's winners (Christchurch) could only fill fourth place.
