COUNTY COUNCIL HELD A MEETING YESTERDAY. The Rangiora County Council mot yesterday, Mr W. Stalker (chairman) presiding:. There were also present— Messrs G. H. Crysell, J. Brosnan, A. M’lntosh, H. Tallott, M. C. Ormandy and J. M. Young-. A motion of sympathy was passed with the family of the late Sir Joseph Ward. Thd chairman reported on the protection works on Mount Thomas road, and advised the council to make application to the Public Works Department for a

grant of £IOO on the basis of £1 for £1 towards the cost. Permission was granted Mr H. Dyer to form a drain along: his boundary, and also to plough the side of the road. The secretary of the Rangiora High School Board wrote thanking the council for its grant towards the purchase of additional land for the school farm. In connection with the Royal Commission on Railways the chairman and Air Tallott were appointed to represent the council. It was decided to grant the request to close a road at Cust adjoining R.S. 12463. A resolution was passed confirming the striking of a general rate of 9-16 of a penny in both ridings and a hospital rate of id in the £l, the aggregate rate being a reduction of i of a penny in the £1 as compared with last year. Injured in Accident. Yesterday afternoon Noel Pentecost, aged ten, son of Mrs Stella Pentecost, a widow living in Edward Street, ran

out from the footpath in front of a car standing in High Street, opposite the Bank of New Zealand, and wm knocked down by a motor-cycle ridden by a young man named Garnet Rande. The boy's right arm was broken, and he also sustained minor injuries. After receiving attention from Dr M’Phail. he was taken to the Christchurch Hospital.
