Cecil Anthony Cook, who did not apsar. was fined £8 and costs for failure o keep to the left and 20s and costs or driving a car without being in possession of a license. Senior Sergeant O’Grady said that defendant collided with another car at an intersection at a time when there was no other traffic about. A witness said that defendant was in a drunken condition and refused either to go to the Police Station or to see a constable. Defendant told witness, the driver of the other car involved in the smash, that he would meet the damage to the car, about £l2, but would give no written authority. Heavy Fine Inflicted. Arthur Julius Creedon was fined £lO md costs for dangerous driving and £2 and costs for failure to report an accident. Senior-Sergeant O'Grady said that accused ran into a motor-cycle and side-car, and a child was thrown out on the road, but not injured. Creedon pulled up after travelling some distance down the road and used abusive language to the driver of the motorcycle. A witness estimated the speed of Creedon’s car at from forty to fortyfive miles an hour Creedon said that he was not travelling fast. lie thought he had time to get across the intersection and did do so, but the collision occurred twenty feet over the intersection. “Have you got a license?” asked the Magistrate.—“ Yes." “I am afraid you are going to lose it.” Creedon said that he had been out o.f work for some time and only last Monday had secured work as a radio salesman. It was essential that he should retain his license. The Magistrate: Then I am going to increase the fine. You are not a fit person to have a license. He was convicted and fined £lO on the first charge with costs, and £2 and costs on the second charge. Other Cases. The following were fined, with costs, for cycling at night without lights:—William John Baynes 10s, John Blake 10s, Donald St Slair Gunn 10s, Thomas Hay ss, Alfred Howard ss, Sydney O’Brien 10s, Edward Shirley 10s, Leonard Paterson 10s, and Andrew Thompson 10s. Thompson was also fined 5s and costs for not having a rear reflector. For cycling on the footpath, John Lester was fined 10s and costs, and Leonard Paterson 5s without costs. For negligent driving, Richard Beck (Mr E. A. Lee) was fined £2 and costs; Joseph Archie Ilosking (Mr Stacey) £4 and costs, and Gilbert Norton (Mr Bowie) 20s and costs. Frederick Buchanan was fined 5s and costs for driving a motor-car at night without a tail light. Walter Butler was fined 10s and costs for allowing an unlighted obstruction to remain in the roadway. Charles John Fineran, for driving a car when not in possession of a driver’s license was fined 10s and costs, and Thomas Lewis a similar amount. Dangerous Driving. William Joseph Franklin (Mr Wylie) was fined £2 and costs for dangerous driving. Augustus Henry Gillen was ordered to pay witnesses’ expenses on a similar charge. James Edward Fitzgerald was fined £2 and costs for driving in a dangerous manner Failed to Give Way. Stanley Shirley Roberts was fined £3 and costs for failing to give way. Two Charges. John Grigg Manhire (Mr Papprill) was fined £2 and costs for failing to give way. A charge of cutting a corner was dismissed. A case against Joseph Bell M’Bride, of failing to give way was dismissed. Clifford Pavitt, for failure to give way, was fined £3 and costs.
