TRIBUTE PAID TO THE LATE SIR JOSEPH WARD.

A motion of sympathy with the Government and the relatives of the late Sir Joseph Ward in the loss sustained by his death was passed by the Christchurch Presbytery to-day. The Moderator (the Rev Theo Paterson) said that Sir Joseph Ward was the distinguished head of the Liberal Party and later c>f the United Party, and he had served the country, according to the views of that party, very nobly and very well. The Presbytery as a loyal body of citizens should express its sympathy now that one who had for so long been ft distinguished figure in political life had been removed.
